About

Jess shaw 83 (1)Jessica Shaw, BSc (Hons) Ost

Musculo-skeletal Practitioner

I have been a therapist for almost 25 years and use a combination of structural and cranial manipulative techniques with a patient led approach to treatment. Techniques used may include spinal and joint mobilisation and adjustment, cranial, deep tissue massage and myo-fascial release, passive and active stretching, muscle energy, postural assessment and exercise rehabilitation. Each person is different, so I use the most suitable approach for each individual depending on needs and preferences.

I graduated from the British College of Naturopathy & Osteopathy in London in 2000 after 4 years full-time study, with first class honours in Osteopathic Medicine.  After moving to Edinburgh in 2001, I spent 10 years establishing a multi-disciplinary practice before moving back down to my native Yorkshire in 2011. I retired from osteopathy in Spring 2024 and now work part-time as a muscle-skeletal practitioner.

spirit-body-mindI love treating people of all ages, and am particularly interested in the treatment of children and expectant mothers having done post-graduate training in this field.  I enjoy working with women with pregnancy related back and pelvic pain, and love working with children.  I am also interested in posture and the effect that poor posture, especially at work, can have on our bodies.

I have done voluntary work at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in Manchester in 2006/7 and have training in work posture risk assessment through the HSE.

Outside of work, I have practiced Pilates and Yoga for 30 years and have always worked closely with Pilates and Yoga teachers to help people get the most out of their sessions and continue finding their own way towards greater strength and flexibility.

Please contact me for any further information.  I look forward to hearing from you.
