Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning system developed by Jospeh Pilates in the early 20th century that may help build flexibility, core muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back.  It put emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, development of a strong core and improving coordination and balance.

It allows for different exercises to be modified from beginners to advanced, and intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.  It is also excellent for rehabilitation from musculo-skeletal injuries such as back pain as it helps to recondition and balance weak muscles.

Julie Brown has been a qualified Pilates instructor for the past 4 years, and has been in the fitness industry for 12 years, working as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.  She  says “I love teaching Pilates and strongly  believe in the results you can achieve in your body, having used pilates in my former profession as an aerialist in the circus.  It has also helped me to get in to shape for the marathons, triathlons and iron man training I have under taken. I love the new studio that Jess has built – it is super for both small Pilates classes and 1:1 Pilates, and I am looking forward to helping people with their fitness and core strength in the lovely surroundings”.

Her matwork classes are small in size, never more that 8 people at one time, so that she can take time to connect with everyone in the class, and correct them with some personal attention.  As a result, her classes are mixed ability.

She is available on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm-8.30pm, Friday mornings 9.30pm-10.30pm, and Friday evenings 6pm-7pm.  Bookings are taken on a block basis, usually in-line with school breaks.

She is also available on Fridays during the day for 1:1 sessions which can be excellent for those just starting out in Pilates and for those who may have or had injuries that need a bit more in-depth attention.
